The Friends of Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery was founded in 1983. Friends raise money to assist the Museum to achieve projects which, without extra financial support, it would find difficult to realise. This has mainly involved assisting the purchase of significant pictures, ceramics and other museum items for display. The Friends have also assisted with the purchase of display cases and computer equipment. Many members of the Friends are currently helping the Museum as volunteers, assisting with the auditing, photographing and packing of the collections in advance of the planned move into the refurbished Music Hall in 2013.

Members of the Friends receive a number of privileges. They have free admission to the Museum; they are invited to the opening of all special exhibitions and private views. In addition, the Friends’ Committee organises a lively programme of talks, excursions and other activities, as well as distributing two illustrated newsletters each year. Members have voting rights at the Annual General Meeting, which is normally followed by a lecture.

If you would like to join the Friends of Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery, please contact the Hon. Secretary on agregarioushermit@gmail.com.
